Melcom Group mourns passing of Godwin Avenorgbo

Accra, Aug 21, GNA – The Melcom Group of Companies has announced the passing of the Group’s Communications Director Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo, affectionately known as the “Grandmaster”. 

The Group in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said the sad event occurred on Monday, August 19.  

“The Melcom Group of Companies extends its deepest condolences to Godwin Avenorgbo’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.” 

It said the late Mr Avenorgbo joined the Melcom Group in 2013 and quickly became an exemplary leader whose visionary approach to communication left an indelible mark on the organisation. 

 “Throughout his tenure, the Grandmaster demonstrated unparalleled dedication to directing both internal and external communication affairs,” it said.  

“His industrious nature and non-negotiable leadership style set a high standard within the company, earning him admiration and respect from all levels of the organisation.” 

The statement said one of his most significant achievements was serving as Chairman of the Melcom Education Scholarship.  

It noted that under his guidance, the scheme was transformed, earning numerous recommendations and greatly benefiting its recipients.  

It said beyond his contributions to Melcom, the late Mr Avenorgbo was an astute journalist and broadcaster with a distinguished career before joining our company.  

The statement said he was a pivotal member of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and was recently appointed as Chairman of the Planning Committee for the GJA’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations.  

It said the Mr Avenorgbo’s influence in the media landscape was profound as he pioneered morning shows on GBC’s platforms, a format that had since been adopted by numerous media houses across the country.  

It said the late Mr Avenorgbo’s legacy extended beyond his professional achievements.  

It said he was a mentor, a visionary, and a leader who believed in the power of ethical communication.  

It reiterated that his contributions to both Melcom and the broader community would be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.  

The statement said further details regarding memorial services would be shared in due course.
