Koforidua, Aug. 19, GNA -The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Koforidua Ghana-Stake has climaxed the 18th annual All Africa Service Project (AASP) with a clean-up and a blood donation exercises in the Eastern Region.

The AASP is commemorated every year in August by members of the church across the African continent.

The church uses this period to sensitise both members and non-members to the love for community and service, and the need to protect the environment by planting trees or cleaning up their surroundings.

Mr Desmond Osei Anom, the President of the Koforidua Ghana-Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints said the 11 branches and wards under the Stake undertook the voluntarily clean-up exercise at various places including Suhum, Tafo, and Osiem.

He said about 300 church members, including non-members in the Koforidua township participated in the clean-up and the blood donation exercises.

The blood donation took place at the church premises while the clean-up was also done at areas including the Agartha market through to B. Foster Street, and Total two fuel stations.

Mr Anom was optimistic that other organisations and associations would have the desire to do likewise to improve sanitation and make blood available at blood bank units in hospitals.

The blood donation was supported by the Eastern Regional Hospital’s Blood Bank Unit.

Mr Charles Agyapong, the Communications Director of the Koforidua Ghana-Stake, thanked the ZoomLion Ghana Limited of the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly for supporting them with tools and equipment in the clean-up.

He urged the public to protect the environment using all possible means to properly dispose of refuse.

Mr Isaac Tei Odonkor, the Assistant Organiser of the Blood Bank Unit at the Eastern Regional Hospital explained that since the facility was a referral centre for the region, they often faced shortage of blood at the bank, and it was donations through churches, schools, and organisations that helped in boosting its stock.

He called on individuals to donate blood at the various hospitals to help save lives.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints shares various teachings with other branches of Christianity. These include a belief in the bible, divinity of Jesus Christ and His atonement and resurrection, and a form of apostolic succession.
