Accra, Aug. 31, GNA – Ghana’s contingent, which participated in the just ended All Badminton Youth U-19 championship in Senegal, was given a rousing welcome at the Kotoka International Airport on Friday, August 30, 2024.
The contingent was welcomed by the leadership of the Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG), the National Supporters Union, and the media, after winning the championship.
They won three gold medals and a bronze medal in the competition.
Ghana defeated Benin on 60-50 aggerate to emerged winners in the mixed relay category, with Addo Leslie, Nii Adote, Adu-Minta Obapomba, Ankrah Jonathan, Amofa Andy, Moslena Ama Korama Adu, Quarcoo Racheal and Awa Camara competing for Ghana.
In the men’s triple team category, Ghana beat South Africa 3-1 to win gold, with Addo Leslie, Nii Adote, Adu-Minta Obapomba, and Ankrah Jonathan making up the team.
In the women’s triple category, Adu Moslena Ama Korama, and Quarcoo Racheal represented Ghana to beat Algeria 3-1 to win gold.
Mr. Yeboah Evans, President of the Association congratulated the team for their excellent performance saying, “the result achieved puts Ghana in a higher pedestal in the sport”.
He said, the sport was striving and with the result that had been achieved by the team, “it is something that is propelling each and every individual and stakeholder to move us to the next level”.
He said, “we are excited that there is a lot of collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee, National Sports Authority, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Tebal Ghana during the campaigning and training period at the Borteyman Sports Complex”.
