A vote for NPP is a vote to escape accountability — John Mahama

Winneba (C/R), Aug. 24, GNA – The Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, has asked Ghanaians to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the forthcoming elections, saying: “A vote for the NPP is a vote for the leadership to escape accountability.”

“If the NPP should stay in office beyond 2025, impunity of the last eight years will continue to thrive under a third term of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” he said.

Addressing party faithful and supporters at the NDC’s election manifesto launch at the University of Education Winneba (UEW) on Saturday, former President Mahama said voting for the NPP would amount “to allowing officials who have raped this country’s resources to escape accountability and to go laughing all the way to the bank.”

The party’s Manifesto launch, held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Auditorium at UEW, was graced by the Party’s running mate, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Also in attendance were party big wigs, including members of the National Executive Committee, Council of Elders, Members of Parliament and the parliamentary candidates, the diplomatic corps, clergy, traditional authorities, civil society organisations, academia, Labour Organisations, and creative arts.

Various leaders of the party took turns to address Ghanaians on thematic areas of the NDC’s transformational vision for resetting and building “the Ghana we want.”

“We are at a critical juncture in our democratic history. Choices we make in elections come with consequences. We cannot afford to fail this time,” Mr Mahama said.

“A restive youth does not have the luxury of trial and error,” he cautioned.

He pledged a lean government that will galvanise the efforts of all Ghanaians, irrespective of ethnicity, religion or partisan affiliation.

“We need a government that allows all businesses to thrive, whether domestic or foreign, no matter the ethnic, religious, or partisan colours of its owners.”

“This may be our last chance to get it right. It cannot be business as usual. Ghana is a nation in a hurry.”

Prof Richard Kofi Asiedu, the Central Regional Chairman, reiterated the region’s commitment to winning the 20 seats to fast-track development.
