2024 NDC Manifesto: Akufo-Addo-led government severely short-changed Ghanaians — Mahama

By Godwill Arthur-Mensah

Accra, Aug.24, GNA – The Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, says the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has severely short-changed Ghanaians with bad governance, corruption and economic mismanagement.

Therefore, his administration in 2025 would right the wrongs and promote economic growth and prosperity for all Ghanaians when given the mandate in the December 7 Election.

He said the NPP government under President Akufo-Addo inherited over $450 million of the IMF Extended Credit Facility initiated by his administration.

However, due to economic mismanagement and excessive borrowing by Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, it had eroded all the gains the NDC administration made under his presidency.

Former President Mahama said this during the launch of the Party’s 2024 Election Manifesto in Winneba in the Central Region on Saturday.

The well-attended ceremony was held on the theme,”Ghana is always Open for Business 24-Hours” which attracted the Party’s supporters and sympathisers across the country.

“…And as the saying goes, to ‘whom much is given, much is expected.’ Unfortunately, the people of Ghana have been severely short-changed by this NPP administration,” Mr Mahama emphasised.

He decried the poor management of the economy by the Akufo-Addo-led government, saying; “The NPP has decimated Ghana’s democracy beyond recognition, destroyed livelihoods and families, and pushed millions of Ghanaians below the poverty line”.

The NDC Flagbearer stated that the faith in the country’s  democratic institution and the political leadership was at the lowest ebb, whilst corruption and political impunity were at the highest end.

However, Mr Mahama said in spite of those downturns, there was hope for the future as the next NDC government under his leadership would implement a 24-hour economy to bring economic development, growth and jobs for the teeming youth.

“We will boost our economy through investments in the productive sectors of agriculture, manufacturing and the creative economy. We will stimulate growth through energy, infrastructure, science, technology and environmental development,” he said.

Former President Mahama assured that his administration would address the core needs of Ghanaians and implement inclusive policies that covered women, youth, children, persons with disabilities, older people and marginalised groups to promote equal access to public services and protection from abuse.

“We remain unequivocally  committed to promoting  good governance, principled and friendly relations with all nations and support multi-lateralism whilst upholding our sovereign integrity,” Mr Mahama assured.

“We have an abiding faith in the Ghanaian people’s ability to weather the most daunting storms. I do not doubt that when we combine our collective  energies and efforts, we can rescue our beloved country and build a great nation that offers opportunities for all,” Mr Mahama added.

The NDC Manifesto serves as a blueprint to guide its policies and programmes when given the nod to govern the country in the December 7 Election.
