Keta (V/R), Aug 30, GNA – A total of 31,116 registered voters in the Keta Constituency of the Volta Region verified their details in the just-ended Voter Exhibition Exercise by the Electoral Commission ahead of the December elections.

The seven-day exercise provided the opportunity for all eligible voters to check their names and other particulars in the EC’s database and demand the necessary corrections to be made before the general election.

Mr Philip Adzomadi, the EC Officer at Keta, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that a total number of 50,330 voters in the area were expected to take part in the exercise.

“31,116 voters were able to visit our exhibition centres to check their names in the voter’s register, and this represents about 62 per cent of the total population expected,” he said.

Some eligible voters also resorted to using the short codes provided by the EC to check their details.

He said the exercise, which was held from August 20 to 27, was characterised by low turnout with some centres recording less than 10 voters in a day.

“This exercise is very important because it helps voters to check and call for any correction to be made but it seems many were not interested.”

Mr Adzomani commended officials deployed to 127 election centres in the 22 electoral areas within the constituency for a successful exercise.

He said nominations had been opened for all eligible persons to pick forms to contest in the upcoming parliamentary election, where filing is expected to be closed on September 13.

Meanwhile, some voters the GNA engaged expressed dissatisfaction over the low patronage of the exercise.

They blamed the EC, the National Commission for Civil Education, and the Information Services Department for failing to provide enough publicity.
