Accra, July 23, GNA- President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Tuesday commissioned a 320-unit housing complex for the Ghana Police Service.
The housing project, which began in 2018, is situated at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra. It comprises seven blocks of 112 two-bedroom apartments and thirteen blocks of 208 three-bedroom apartments, with each block containing sixteen apartments.
The project also features a multipurpose sports facility, a kindergarten school, an officer’s mess, and other auxiliary residential amenities.
At an inaugural ceremony, President Akufo-Addo said the initiative aims to provide the Ghana Police Service with the resources it needs to do its job successfully.
“This milestone is not just a testament to our determination to improve the living standards of our security personnel, but also a key step forward in our national quest for enhanced security and safety.”
The President emphasised that the facility represented “our resolve to ensure that those who risk their lives daily to protect us have a safe and comfortable place to call home.”
“The importance of adequate housing for our security personnel is self-evident…It is a well-known fact that a well-housed police force is a more motivated and productive one.
“When our police officers have access to decent accommodation, it enhances their morale and improves considerably their effectiveness in maintaining law and order.
“By providing these modern, well-equipped housing facilities, President Akufo-Addo said the project was a testament to his administration’s commitment to creating an environment in which police officers focus more on their critical duties rather than worry about their living conditions.
“We aim to improve the quality of life for officers and men and women of the police service and help create a conducive environment that motivates them and enhances their operational readiness.
“Today’s commissioning is a clear demonstration of the Akufo-Addo government’s commitment to addressing the housing deficit within the Security Services,” he said, adding that the project reflected the broader agenda to ensure that every Ghanaian had access to decent housing.
The President said the housing project, which was part of a wider strategy to enhance the capacity of the security agencies, was consistent with efforts to provide modern equipment, advanced training, and better working conditions for the police force.
“We believe that a holistic approach is necessary to create a robust and effective security system…By addressing the various needs of our security personnel, we are laying a solid foundation for a safer and more secure Ghana,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo reiterated that his administration would work tirelessly to address the housing needs of all security services and ensure that they are well-equipped to serve the nation.
He urged those who would benefit from the housing units to take good care of the facility.
