Krachi West (O/R), July 24, GNA – Residents of Atigagorme, a fishing community in the Krachi West Municipality are complaining about an abandoned Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) in the community for the past four years.

The neglect, they added, was impeding access to quality healthcare as patients were forced to seek medical attention at Kete-Krachi District Hospital, several kilometres away, and werre overwhelmed due to the need to cross the Volta Lake.

Mr Dor Gideon, the Assembly member of the area said the government must take immediate steps to ensure the operationalization of the facility to enhance healthcare delivery in the area.

The Assemblyman told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the clinic had been there for almost four years now, authorities had not thought of ensuring that the place was used to ease the pressure on having to seek medical care elsewhere.

Madam Adzovi Afua Kwatei, a resident who spoke to the GNA narrated the struggle she goes through to access healthcare at either Kete-Krachi in the Oti Region or Kajiji under Bono East Region.

“If the government can fix it for us, we will be happy, we will travel long distances on the lake to treat our illnesses” He added.

Other residents urged authorities to as a matter of urgency facilitate and ensure that the health facility is use.
