Accra, Jan. 12, GNA - Three Ghanaian green businesses and startups are to receive support this year to participate in the ClimateLaunchPad competition at the Africa and Global levels.
The ClimateLaunchpad is one of the largest green business idea competitions that seeks to unlock the world’s cleantech potential that addresses climate change.
The three will be selected from 10 startups/businesses, based on the impact of their businesses on the climate, business potential, social impact, innovation, technology potential, management team strength, and the pitch of their ideas.
A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency by The Little Cow, a marketing and consulting firm that supports businesses to adhere to measures mitigating the impact of climate change, said the businesses would be taken through a three-day workshop, immersed them in training, receive coaching sessions among others.
The statement said they would go through a session and then be supported to participate in the Africa regionals ClimateLaunchPad competition.
“Once any of three or all the three are able to excel at the Africa level, they will be given the support to contest the global contest,” it said.
The statement recounted that in the year 2023 three green businesses Null Wood Fabrication, the Luna, and Mus Plastic in Ghana received similar support but could not qualify from Africa to compete in the global competition.
These three finalists, Null Wood Fabrications, focused on reducing plastic waste and deforestation; whilst Luna aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through reusable biodegradable menstrual pads; and Mus Plastics, was dedicated to transforming plastic waste into pavement blocks and affordable fuel.
The competition provides a platform for training entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills required to make their businesses thrive.
It also provided a platform for networking with potential partners and investors and awards the winners of the competition with a cash prize to elevate or start their business.
