Hohoe (V/R), Oct. 24, GNA – A 37-year-old sales manager, Kassegne Kofi Japhter, has been sentenced to five years in prison in hard labour for stealing.
Kassegne on September 15, 2023, appeared before the Hohoe Circuit Court presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey and pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing.
However, on October 18, when the convict reappeared before the court, he changed his plea to guilty and was convicted.
Police Chief Inspector Charles Aziati, Prosecuting told the court that the complainant was the Director of Tego Enterprise located in Hohoe, while the convict was a manager for a branch of the company, where he sold plumbing materials and other goods.
He said the convict had been put to manage the branch since September 9, 2021.
Police Chief Inspector Aziati said on January 6, last year, an audit exercise carried out into the convict’s work revealed that he understated sales monies to an amount of GH¢11,278.50
He said further checks also indicated total material shortage of GH¢51,692.00; all amounting to GH¢62,970.50.
Chief Inspector Aziati said the complainant made a report to the Police and the convict was arrested.
He said during investigations, the convict volunteered statement on caution to the Police, where he stated that “he used the money to enjoy life with women.”
