Accra, Dec. 1, GNA – Pope Francis has extended his condolences to the Catholic Church in Ghana on the demise of Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr, the Catholic Bishop of Wa Diocese.
A statement issued by Archbishop Henryk M. Jagodzinski, the Apostolic Nuncio in Ghana and addressed to Reverend Matthew K. Gyamfi, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani and President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, said having learned with sadness of the death of Cardinal Baawobr, the Pope extends his heartfelt condolences to his family and the Missionaries of Africa, as well as the clergy, religious and laity of the Diocese of Wa.
“Recalling with gratitude cardinal Baawobr’s faithful witness to the gospel marked by generous service to the Church in Ghana, especially to those most in need, I willingly join the faithful in praying that our merciful father may grant to this wise and gentle pastor the reward of his labours and welcome him into the light and peace of heaven,” the Pope said in the statement copied to the Ghana News Agency.
“To all who mourn the late Cardinal’s passing in the sure hope of the resurrection I impart my blessings as a pledge of consolation and peace in Jesus, the firstborn from the dead”.
The statement indicated that Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State at the Vatican, also offered his condolences at the passing of Cardinal Baawobr, saying “and I pray that our heavenly father may grant him eternal repose”.
Cardinal Baawobr died on Sunday, November 27, 2022, in Rome.
