Accra, Dec 8, GNA – Mr Herbert Krapa, a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, has inaugurated a 14-member National Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Advisory Council to provide strategic guidance on project implementation under the EPA, among other things.
The Council, which is to see to compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and standards of such agreements would also monitor the progress of Ghana’s iEPA and accompanying measures.
It is chaired by the Minister for Trade and Industry and is scheduled to meet twice in a year.
The inauguration forms part of the institutional arrangements for the implementation of the the EU-Ghana interim EPA, a trade and development agreement, which Ghana signed and ratified in 2016.
The agreement seeks to promote trade by reducing trade barriers and tariffs imposed on imports of products originating in the EU and Ghana.
Institutions on the Council include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters, Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana Standards Authority , among others.
