Accra, Nov. 10, GNA – SIC Life Insurance Limited, in collaboration with the National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the National Blood Service (NBS) has organised a blood donation exercise in Accra.

The exercise which was held at the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC) forms part of an annual campaign championed by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the NBS for stakeholders in the Insurance sector to give back to society.

Some Students of ATTC donated blood to support the Ghana Blood Service

Mr Albert Bahun-Wilson, the Head of Corporate Services at SIC Life, said his organisation was pleased to collaborate with the NIC and NBS for the exercise.

He said the exercise was specifically targeted at students in second cycle institutions because they fell within the age range for active donors.

Mr Bahum-Wilson said SIC Life was providing logistics and funding for the exercise and had engaged the students prior to the exercise and had asked them to inform their parents for consent earlier.

The blood donation exercise which is now an annual event of SIC also aimed at increasing awareness on blood donation.

“We will continue to partner the NBS to help people in need, and ultimately because it falls in line with our values,” he said.

Madam Sophia Blankson, the Principal Blood Donor Recruitment Officer, at the National Blood Service, said that there was a need to encourage voluntary blood donation to ensure sufficiency of safe blood for emergency situations.

“We are thankful to the management and staff of the SIC Life Insurance for fully embracing and driving this initiative which is in its second year,” she said.

She also expressed appreciation to the management of students of ATTC for embracing the exercise.
