Takoradi, Aug 18, GNA – Dr Kwesi Biney, a Security Analyst in Ghana has noted with concern the state of insecurity in the country and that the populace needs to face reality and confront it squarely.
Dr Biney who spoke with the GNA in an interview said, ” the only person to trust now in the country is yourself and your God and for that matter, to avoid being a victim of kidnapping, there is the need to study and practice security tips to be saved from harm.”
Sharing a few security tips to guard daily activities, he cautioned against the “use of car stickers that indicate where one works, especially if you have a prestigious job”.
He said people should never share pictures of their kids in their school uniforms or badges by protecting them from miscreants.
According to him, those who attended parties should not let the band get so high that they start spraying money.
“Don’t be the one that tries to empty the ATM by making large withdrawals…You don’t need 50k in your wallet to feel like a man”, he cautioned.
Dr Biney called on the public to always delete their bank transaction notifications, especially SMS and if possible, try to memorize their bank balance.
They should also shred their POS/ATM receipts after visiting the ATM to withdraw money.
Dr Biney advised that joggers not go jogging while it is dark and must be smarter by going with people, they can trust to keep them company.
He cautioned the public to lock their doors, even if they were only going out to switch off their generator.
The Security Analyst said, “Never wear your ID outside your workplace. No one needs to know where you work. Be accountable to your spouse or parents, let someone know where you are at every point in time”.
Dr Biney cautioned parents as much as they could, not to send their wards alone on errands outside their house since they were soft targets.
He also cautioned against the situation where people tried to show that they are the richest in the neighbourhood by making large donations in their estate meetings, and instead learn modesty.
Dr Biney advised employers and employees to avoid staying late in their office long after closing hours, bearing in mind that deadline work could be done later or at home if wished.
He implored the public to make safety the number one factor in their decision always and mind what they posted about themselves on social media.
“Never make any attempt to open your gate/door to even your child, brother, or any relative in the night, particularly on dead nights, they might be used to get you easily. No matter what just tell them, till in the morning. Simply protect yourself”, he cautioned.
He noted that, though God would keep and protect us, people should also apply discretion and advised the public to be their brother’s keeper by sharing any security tips that could be of help to them to save more lives.
