Let’s recognise agriculture as a source of economic growth

By Kingsley Mamore

Dambai (O/R) August 14, GNA- Mr Emmanuel Donkor, President of Federation of Disability in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, has encouraged Persons Living with Disability (PWDs) to enter into agriculture to help reduce over-reliance on pittance and government.

He said most of the Persons Living with Disability did not see the agricultural sector as an area for sustainable career opportunity, indicating that they end up as street beggars in cities.

He noted that farming was a business, and when given access to land, people with disabilities could produce wonders with the right support.

He encouraged people with disabilities to venture into cooperative farming.

Mr Donkor made this remark at PWDs meeting held in Dambai when Mr, Michael Yaw Gyato, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi East presented an amount of GH¢15, 000 worth of fuel from Ghana Goil Company Limited (Goil) with support from Smiling Heart Foundation for farmers.

This gesture is sequel to the procurement of a Massey Ferguson tractor and other farming implements he funded then, through his MP’s Common Fund, to boost farming activities in the Municipality and help women increase their yield.

Mr Bawa Moke, one of the beneficiaries, was hopeful the support from the former MP and Smiling Heart Foundation to expand their farms would help revive and transform their daily lives.

Other beneficiaries thanked the former MP for remembering the less privileged and asked for God’s protection and mercies on his life.
