Tamale, Aug. 26, GNA – The Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association in Tamale has sensitised its members on measures to ensure their safety and help prevent violent extremism in the country.
The sensitisation seminar, supported by the Northern Regional Peace Council, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, was to create awareness of violent extremism and develop resilient structures for its prevention.
Chief Superintendent Mr Mahmud Yussif, the Head, Northern Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department, Ghana Police Service, advised citizens to be attentive to identify suspicious characters and report to the security agencies for the necessary action.
He urged them to take precautions when travelling and take note of suspicious or unusual behaviour of passengers, avoid accepting packages from strangers, or leave luggage unattended.
Miss Suale Zeinab, a hairdresser and participant, advised her colleagues to identify people who patronised their services and be careful of the conversations they had with them.
Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani, former Northern Regional Director, National Commission for Civic Education, who facilitated the seminar, emphasised the need for citizens to share information to create awareness on preventing violent extremism.
