Varna, On The Black Sea, Aug. 31, (BTA/GNA) – The flag of the bulk carrier Shipka was raised at China’s Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. on Wednesday. It is the sixth of twelve 32,150-tonne laker bulk carriers contracted by Navigation Maritime Bulgare, Navibulgar said.
Captain Genadi Kostov and engineer Yuri Dimitrov are her first master and chief engineer.
This is the fourth ship named after the Shipka Peak in the Central Balkan Range in Navibulgar’s history. The first Shipka was delivered on January 7, 1939. She was a refrigerator steamship built in Germany, which served in the Navibulgar fleet until 1978.
The flag of the Kom, the first of the new series, was raised on August 20, 2021. It was followed by m/v Bogdan (September 24, 2021), m/v Perelik (February 11, 2022), m/v Verila (June 20, 2022) and m/v Vezhen (June 30, 2022).
Two more vessels of the same series, Musala and Slavyanka, are expected to join the fleet in 2023. The last four sisters of the series are expected to join the fleet in 2024.
The total investment will top USD 300 million.
