Cultural Tourism Tops Bulgaria’s Assertion as Year-Round Destination—Deputy Minister

Kardjali, South Central Bulgaria, Aug. 12, (BTA/GNA) – Cultural tourism tops the Tourism Ministry’s consistent efforts to assert Bulgaria as a year-round destination, Deputy Tourism Minister Mariela Modeva said here on Thursday at a national discussion on “The Wonders of Bulgaria”.

“The cultural heritage in the Rhodopi Mountains and the superimposition of seven civilizations is an enormous asset for Bulgaria. In terms of cultural and historical heritage, Bulgaria ranks third after Italy and Greece,” the Deputy Minister said.

“We are highlighting cultural tourism in the overall publicity of Bulgaria so as to raise awareness and increase information of our heritage abroad which cannot be presumed,” Modeva pointed out.

In her words, cultural tourism can attract well-off visitors to Bulgaria. “The image of Bulgaria as a destination is not built through official channels only. If negative news is reported, such as hate speech, instability and clear lines of division, this puts off both tourists and investors,” the Deputy Minister argued.

She drew special attention to the cultural tourism development plan and regional brand development. Presenting Bulgaria’s good tourism product on promising target markets through digital platforms is a new strategy, Modeva explained.
