Sofia, Aug 15 (BTA/GNA) – Bulgarian pupils won two silver and two bronze medals at the most prestigious international Olympiad in informatics held in Indonesia in August 7 to 15, the Education and Science Ministry said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Eleventh-grade student of the Sofia Math School Atanas Dimitrov and 10th-grade student of the Varna, on the Black Sea, Math School Deyan Hadji-Manich won silver medals while 12th-graders Martin Kopchev from the Natural Sciences and Math School in Gabrovo, North Central Bulgaria, and Andon Todorov from the Sofia Math School, won bronze.
The Bulgarian team was coached by Emil Kelevedjiev of the Institute of Math and Informatics with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Dobrin Bashev, who studies in the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.
A total of 350 participants from 88 countries competed in the Indonesian Olympiad.
The Bulgarian team competed in a two-day event of the Olympiad where each participant had to solve three algorithmic problems for five hours.
In 1989 Bulgaria organized and hosted the first international informatics Olympiad and is one of the few countries who have participated in all editions of the competition.
