Bulgarian Company Wins Award for Device for Blind and Visually Impaired People

Sofia, Aug. 23, (BTA/GNA) – Scalefocus, the Bulgarian software development and digital services company, won the Grand Stevie Award of the 19th Annual International Business Awards for the highest-rated new product or service nomination, the SoundVision device and app for blind and visually impaired people, the company said on Tuesday.

The company describes SoundVision as “an affordable palm-sized and easy-to-use device that improves visually impaired people’s mobility and lifestyle. Paired with a mobile app, it complements the standard white cane and helps users become more active and independent by providing real-time information about the surrounding area”.

The Bulgarian company also won the Gold Stevie Award for Best Healthcare Technology Solution.

CEO Ivan Ivanov said Scalefocus developed the device from the idea to the design to the software and hardware.

The SoundVision project is supported by the Norway Grants 2014-2021, as part of the Business Development, Innovation and SMEs Programme Bulgaria. The other partners are Norsk Regnesentral (NRS), Norway’s Adaptor Hjelpemidler and Bulgaria’s Foundation Synergia.
