Antelope gores staff member to death at Swedish animal park

Copenhagen, Aug 29, (dpa/GNA) – An antelope has gored a staff member to death, at a Swedish animal park, according to media reports on Monday.

The man wanted to bring the animal to the stables after the park closed on Sunday evening, a police spokesman told Swedish radio.

“Something happened in connection with this, that led to the antelope impaling him.” The animal is known as an eland, which is considered the world’s largest antelope.

According to park owner Richard Berglund, the employee had many years of experience.

“It’s a sad day,” Berglund, who himself was present at the incident, told Swedish radio. “We wanted to feed the animals and suddenly it attacked. We’ve never had any problems with the animals before.”
