Hanover, Germany 24 Aug, (dpa/GNA) – The son of British pop star Phil Collins, will have to bide his time as he waits to play for the under-19 team at German second-tier club Hanover.
Midfielder Mathew Collins, 17, has sat on the bench in the first two games of the season.
But he will get his chance, Hanover talent manager Achim Sarstedt told the Neue Presse newspaper on Wednesday,”he’s not playing for us because he has a prominent father, but because he stood out in certain criteria during the recruitment process,” he said.
Sporting director Marcus Mann added, “he is nimble and good at football. Physically, he still has to catch up a bit and then he can become a good footballer.”
Phil Collins, known for songs like “In the air tonight,” “Easy Lover” and “Another day in paradise” is a seven-time Grammy Award winner, and has performed frequently in Hanover.
