Akatsi (VR), Aug. 17, GNA-Mr Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, has urged the youth to take vocational apprenticeship programmes seriously to become financially self-sufficient.
“This, when adhered to, will create an enabling environment for community growth.”
The Member of Parliament made this known during an engagement with 280 new apprentices, comprising 267 females and 13 males at Akatsi.
He urged the apprentices to strive hard to become master craftsmen and women and employers of the teeming masses upon graduation.
Mr Ahiafor, during the encounter, presented a total cash amount of GHC 5600.00 to the Master craftsmen as Apprenticeship Agreement fees for the beneficiaries.
He further pledged to fully fund the beneficiaries, their National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) examinations and graduation fees as a token of goodwill.
The move, under the ‘Ahiafor Youth Support Initiative,’ was the second of its kind after the first batch of 38 youth graduated into the various artisan fields.
The beneficiaries would undergo training in areas such as Masonry, Hairdressing, Fashion and Design, Welding, Carpentry, and Mechanical Engineering.
Mr Kofitsey Martin Nyahe, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, also encouraged the apprentices to take their training seriously and asked them to respect their masters so they can complete their training well.
