Union leaders of ABSA Bank advised to develop good relationship with management

Accra, July 20, GNA- Mr Morgan Ayawine, General Secretary, Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU) Ghana, has advised the newly elected executives of Local Union of ABSA Bank to develop a good working relationship with management.

That, Mr Ayawine said, was crucial in ensuring a harmonious coexistence that would result in the achievement of organisational goals of the Bank and enhance better conditions of service and job security.

The General Secretary said this in Accra during the Quadrennial Delegates Conference of ICU Local Union of ABSA Bank Ghana in Accra.

The theme for the Conference is: “The Bank’s Sustainability, The Union’s Concern.”

The Conference was to take stock of the local Union’s stewardship for the past four years, and map out new programmes and strategies to reposition the Local Union of the Bank.

He advised the leadership of the Union to tap into the experiences of their predecessors and the lessons learnt to guide them in their relationship with their social partners to impact positively on organizational goals of the Bank.

“Optimal Union-Management relationship is a shared responsibility, and so we need to regularly address ourselves and ensure optimum results,” he said.

Mr Ayawine advised management of the Bank not to sidestep the Collective Agreement and the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) in relating to their staff on any issues concerning staff’s Conditions of Service and terms of employment and non-employment.

He said the Union had advanced into an era of industrial democracy, where capital and labour have become equal partners, stressing that one party should not impose itself over the other and called for collaboration to ensure sustainable industrial peace, harmony and progress at workplace.

Mr Emmanuel Benimah, the ICU Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations sworn into office the newly elected Local Union Executive of ABSA Bank.

They are Mr Daniel Osei Adane as Chairman, Mr William Aboagye as Vice Chairman, Mr Antwi Twum Barima as Secretary, Ms Grace Bernice Nkrumah as Assistant Secretary and Mr Kwabena Owusu Bempah.

The rest are Mr Kwadwo Barimah as second trustee, Mr Stephen Yirenkye as executive member, Ms Stella Baaba Baah as Women’s representative and Mr Kwabena Ohemeng as Youth representative.

The ceremony was witnessed by Mr Samuel Ananga, the ICU Deputy General Secretary in Charge of Administration and Madam Maarku Vondee, the ICU Chief Industrial Relations Officer.
