Tourism businesses in three regions exposed to Tourism Development Grant opportunities

Takoradi, July 14, GNA – Some Tourism and Hospitality Operators in the Western, Western North and Central Regions have been sensitized on how to access the Ghana Tourism Development Project (GTDP).

The sensitization Workshop covered phase three of the 10 million-dollar GTDP Grant targeted at stakeholders within the Tourism, Arts and Culture value chain.

Professor Gabriel Eshun, the Technical Adviser to the project, said the amount would be disbursed in three categories under the Site Upgrade Grant (SUGs), Small and Medium Enterprises Grant (SMEG) and COVID-19 Relief Grant.

Tour Operators, Hoteliers, Restaurants and Food Service Operators, Tourist Site Owners and Operators, Tourism Related Transport Operators, Arts and Craft, Entertainment Industry are the main beneficiaries.

The GTDP is a $40 million World Bank approved grant to the Government under the International Development Association credit targeted at specific Tourism, Arts and Culture destinations in the country.

Professor Eshun stated that the overall objective was to strengthen the tourism enabling environment to address constraints most likely to have transformative impact on the tourism sector in Ghana.

He said it was also to Develop tourism sites and destinations to diversify the leisure tourism offering in Ghana by identifying and upgrading the most promising destination areas and Tourism enterprise support programme to finance the costs of tourism enterprise matching grants and business development services training.

“The grant application is open until July 29, 2022,” Professor Eshun added.
