Accra, July 13, GNA- School For Life, a Non-Governmental Organisation has appealed to the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to support some deprived schools in the Northern and North East Regions to ensure equity.
They also appealed to Municipal and District Assemblies to allocate resources to the deprived schools in those communities.
A statement signed by Mr Amadu Zulyaden, Advocacy and policy Influencing Specialist of School for Life mentioned lack of furniture at the Chamba west D/A primary “B” school in the Nanumba North Municipality, the Chamba west D/A primary B school in the Bimbilla Municipal among others.
Others, according to the statement include; the ripping up of roofs of Afayili D/A primary school in the Nanumba North Municipality, poor infrastructure and lack of furniture at Juanaayili M/A primary school in the Bimbilla Municipality, and similar challenges at Awalia E/A primary school in the East Mamprusi Municipal capital, Gambaga.
That, the statement said had compelled most of the pupils to sit on the dusty bare floor to study.
According to the statement, Mr Kudo Issac Balengabo, Headteacher of Chamba DA School appealed for more furniture to complement the 40 desks for over 300 pupils.
At Afayili D/A primary school, school authorities said that no government or authority had supported the school in any way.
They claimed that for the past three months, the school had been there without roof thereby jeopardising the lives of pupils.
At Juanaayili M/A primary school in the Bimbilla municipality, the school, with a pupil population of 326 has a three classroom block only for the upper class, while that of the KG to primary three took lessons under trees.
Mr Abukari Adams, headmaster of the school said they had forwarded a petition and applied to the Municipal Assembly for support but were yet to receive positive response.
The statement said lack of furniture at Awalia E/A primary school, located in the East Mamprusi municipal capital, Gambaga was phenomenal.
According to the statement, Authorities of the school said their challenges started since 2016.
Mr iddrisu Adam Malik, Headmaster of the school said their pleas yielded no dividends, but Alhaji Baba Seidu, Member of Parliament for the constituency later came with a Turkish NGO, who took pictures of the classrooms and went back and they were yet to get feedback.
The statement said pupils used Mats, donated by CAMFED an NGO to seat and learn.
