Information Ministry organises second blood donation and health screening exercise

Accra, July 28, GNA–The Ministry of Information, in collaboration with its press corps, has donated 68 points of blood to shore up the stock at the National Blood Bank.

The exercise was second to be organised by the Ministry, which saw 138 persons screened for blood pressure, malaria, body mass index and Human IV.

Madam Fatimatu Abubakar, the Deputy Minister of Information, in her opening remarks, said the exercise was in response to an urgent appeal by the National Blood Bank to help stock up following the Coronavirus pandemic and movement restrictions that affected mass blood donations.

“I’m impressed that my colleagues in the press pool, in addition to the staff of the Information Ministry, Information Services Department and other volunteers responded to the call by the National Blood Bank to help stock the Blood Bank,” she said.

The Deputy Minister thanked the media personnel, staff, and volunteers for availing themselves to donate blood.

She lauded the Ministry for the initiative and urged other ministries, departments, and agencies to follow suit.

Madam Joyce Oppong Adu, Principal Blood Donor and Recruitment Officer of the National Blood Service, highlighted the importance of donating blood, noting that it helped in saving lives and urged the public to participate in future exercise.

Mr Kojo Larbi, Head of Communications at the Stanbic Bank Ghana, said the Bank was always ready to partner the Ministry to donate blood.

Mr Richard Anane Osei, Head of Corporate Affairs at the EXIM Bank Ghana, on his part, believed that the success of the exercise would depend on collective efforts and expressed the Bank’s readiness to continue supporting such exercises in the future.

The exercise was supported by the Stanbic Bank Ghana, Aryton Drugs, Ghana EXIM Bank, Ocean Spray, FanMilk Limited, Dano Milk, Cocoa Processing Company (Golden Tree), Coca Cola, Special Ice, Niche Confectionary, Voltic, Frutelli, Tobinco and Kalypo.

The media partners included the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Ghanaian Times, Joy FM, Asaase Radio and Citi FM.
