Desire for wealth not genuine reason to do politics, youth advised

Sunyani, July 19, GNA – Mr Ransford Antwi the owner and Chief Executive Officer of Suncity Radio, a local FM radio station in Sunyani has advised the youth with the ambition to choose politics as vocation not to focus on enriching themselves.

He said such a mindset had been a contributory factor to the country’s under-development, saying “it is important to acknowledge that as a youth, your contribution to nation-building through your political participation should be driven by the desire to improve the lives of the people”.

“As a young politician you must understand the country is poor and needs to be rescued. So your aspirations, ideals and contributions should be bound with the belt of integrity and the desire to build others up”, he indicated.

Mr Antwi gave the advice when he was speaking at the fourth in the series of a Guidance Conference held in Sunyani on the theme “The Youth: Our Future Hope”.

The Conference, a platform created by Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament is geared towards instilling hope in the youth through sharing of life experiences of himself and those of other well-established Ghanaians for the youth to emulate.

Mr Antwi cautioned the youth whose focus was not genuinely on public interest must not enter politics to hurt the nation, stating that “if you are genuine with the right intentions, your success awaits you in the end”.

He motivated the youth already in politics to be decorous in the presentation of their views on any national issue of discussion, saying being respectful and tolerant to opposing views was necessary because politics must be a vehicle for progress but not a way to create bitterness and rancor in the society

Bishop Dr. Richard Owusu Akyeaw, the Founder and General Overseer of Living Grace Ministries International, Sunyani told the youth hope “is there for everyone, but one must always remember that God rewards diligence”.

He said “those who lack ideas are those who are poor, because they refuse to cherish the ideas they have and are always looking for solutions somewhere”.

Bishop Akyeaw therefore encouraged the youth to practicalise their ideas because to make money, one should be a problem solver with a service and a product to offer.
