Central Expo 22: Police assures maximum security

Cape Coast, July 22, GNA – The Central Regional Police Command has guaranteed maximum security and safety at the week-long Central Region Trade, Tourism and Investment fair which comes off Saturday, July 23 to Saturday July 30 at the Adisadel School Park in Cape Coast.

DCOP Mr Alexander Amenyo, the Regional Police Commander said a joint team of 215 Police, Prisons and Fire Service personnel divided into eight contingents would be deployed to take various positions throughout the fair which would start at 0800 hours to 20 00 hours each day.

The Central Expo 22 will be officially opened by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Monday, July 25 and will host hundreds of diverse participants including exhibitors, investors, diplomats, and traditional rulers.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the Central Regional Commander assured that there would be no room for security breaches because there was the possibility of such gatherings becoming a hotbed for criminals.

He revealed that ununiformed personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department, Police Intelligence and Professional Standard Bureau, National Intelligence Bureau and National Security would be on the grounds to offer support.

A patrol team, he said will also be deployed to augment security in other areas of the Central Regional capital, adding that “we can’t leave the public unattended to.

“We anticipate a level of traffic jam and so the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit will be at post to decongest traffic and provide directions for both commuters and participants.

“No road will be blocked during the fair, each team will be assigned specific duties. Some will be assigned to take care of places of hospitality and other strategic locations.

“We have braced ourselves to forestall any untoward incident and so participants should feel free to patronise the event,” DCOP Amenyo assured.

The Central Expo 22 is on the theme: “Promoting trade, tourism and investment in the Central Region – challenges, prospects and solutions”.

The fair, which was first held in 1998 in the Region, has returned after 24 years as an annual event to stimulate business and economic activities in the region.
