Sofia, July 08, (BTA/GNA) – A BTA exhibition presenting Bulgarian media abroad in photos and archival materials was opened at the National Assembly on Friday. It was unveiled by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Antoaneta Tzoneva, Chair of the parliamentary Committee on Policies for Bulgarians Abroad.
The exhibition consists of 80 photos and archival materials related to the establishment and development of Bulgarian media abroad. It includes issues of the first Bulgarian media in Austria – the Vienna magazine, the only Bulgarian media in Croatia – Rodna Rech [Native Speech], and the only bilingual magazine for children – Farche of Serbia, among others.
At the opening, Tzoneva said: “We thought it would be a good idea to present Bulgarian periodicals abroad to Parliament, to promote these extremely worthy efforts among Bulgarian parliamentarians.”
She stressed that, in the last six months, the Committee on Policies for Bulgarians Abroad has made efforts to ensure that the Bulgarian communities have a true partner. At a suggestion of MPs from the Committee, the 2022 Foreign Ministry budget will fund a programme that supports the activities of Bulgarian media abroad, Tzoneva added.
Valchev said that there are 45 Bulgarian media abroad located in 22 countries on all continents except Africa and Antarctica, according to BTA data. The oldest is half a century old and the youngest – only a year old, he noted, adding that all these media have proven their presence and importance, wherever they may be around the world.
The world meetings of Bulgarian media abroad, organized by BTA, have been bringing those media together once a year since 2005, Valchev underscored.
MPs, journalists and representatives of Bulgarian media from Austria, Canada, the US, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland attended the opening of the exhibition.
The exhibition will be on until July 18.
