Boaterigu community gets CHPS Compound

Boaterigu (N/ER), July 25, GNA Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has constructed a community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound for Boaterigu community in the North East Region to ensure improved access to health care services for residents.

The construction of the facility, which formed part of the CRS’ Rural Emergency Health Services and Transport for Systems Development project, sought to improve maternal and health outcomes in rural areas.

Prior to the construction of the facility in the area, residents travelled many kilometres to Nakpanduri in the Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District for health care services.

Mr Sean Callahan, Global President, and Chief Executive Officer of CRS, who opened the facility, said CRS celebrated working with communities and serving their desires hence the provision of the CHPS Compound in the area.

Mr Callahan lauded the Chief and leaders of the community for their collaboration and called on the community to unite saying working together enhanced the achievements of communities.

Mr Abednego Azumah Bandim, Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu expressed gratitude to the CRS for furnishing and operationalising the CHPS Compound.

He said “I sought intervention from CRS after witnessing women suffer to deliver and seeing some deliver on the floor and in gutters.”

Mr Joseph Louknaan, District Chief Executive for Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri said having a CHPS Compound was a milestone in health delivery to residents of the community, who walked seven kilometres to access basic health services.

He commended CRS for a GHc31,000.00 intervention package to Ghana Health Service to procure items for the Guangbiang and Tojing CHPS Compounds that were yet to be commissioned.

Mr Zakaria Yidana, North East Regional Minister said the facility, which was a collaboration between CRS and government would bring relief to residents in terms of access to health care.

He urged health workers assigned to work at the facility to discharge their duties with diligence to serve the interest of patients and the entire community.

Mr Daniel Mumuni, Country Representative of CRS said the organisation’s support to the community was affected by the commitment of leaders of the Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District.

The facility was furnished with a fetal stethoscope, digital thermometers, infant and adult weighing scales, a television and decoder, and a desktop computer.

It was also provided with a water tank to store water and a motorbike to ease the movement of community health nurses, who have been assigned to take charge of the facility.
