Agogo (Ash), July 29, GNA – Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, has inspected varied infrastructural projects meant to build a resilient local economy in the Asante-Akim North Municipality.
The government-funded projects included an Electricity Company of Ghana sub-Station, agro-processing factory, plantain and onion market, as well as a fire station, and the construction of an administrative edifice to enhance the Municipal Assembly’s activities.
According to the Minister, the overarching agenda “is to expand economic activities, create wealth and jobs at the Municipality.”
The area, noted for its booming farming activities, is an attractive destination for plantain traders from neighbouring West African countries, especially those from Togo, Niger and Burkina Faso.
Mr. Osei-Mensah, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, at Agogo, after he had inspected the completed agro processing factory, said the Government would continue to support the people to enhance their livelihoods.
The factory, amongst others, is expected to help industrialize the plantain production industry for the benefit of the farmers.
Mr. Osei-Mensah, explaining the rationale behind situating an electricity sub-Station at Agogo, said the move was to address the intermittent power outages in the area.
The Regional Coordinating Council had resolved to give the projects the needed attention, supervision and monitoring to serve the desired purposes, the Minister assured.
Mr. Francis Oti Boateng, the Municipal Chief Executive, advised the people to give their backing for the successful implementation of government projects and programmes designed to improve the living conditions of the citizenry.
