Anglican Diocesan Development and Relief Organisation scales up HOPE project

Garu (U/E), July 26, GNA- The Anglican Diocesan Development and Relief Organisation (ADDRO), in partnership with Health International of Canada (HPIC), is implementing a second phase of the Health Outreach, Prevention and Education (HOPE) project at Kugre, Songo and Denugu sub-districts in the Garu district of the Upper East Region.

The Health Outreach, Prevention and Education project is an outreach programme that seeks to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity in underdeveloped communities through the Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) approach.

The first phase of the project was implemented from April 2019 to April 2021 in 29 communities within the Songo and Kugre sub–districts of ADDRO, where pregnant women, mothers, caregivers and children below age five were the direct beneficiaries.

Speaking in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the inception meeting with community members, Mr Prince Imoro Awinba, the Programme Coordinator for ADDRO, said the second phase of the project was a supplementary effort geared towards empowering community members to eradicate maternal and child mortality in the society.

“Upon completing the first phase, we realized that the intervention yielded results and so together with our HPIC partners, we have decided to implement the second phase,” Mr Awinba said.

As part of engaging the communities to ensure a smooth execution of the project, the organisation would engage and train about 60 Community-based Agents (CBAs) to help facilitate the activities of the project.

Mr Awinba said as part of the activities of the project, logistical support such as microscopes and tricycle ambulances, among others would be provided to equip the maternal units of selected health facilities that were deficient of such tools.

Mr Sundana Sundiata Laari, the Assemblyman for Denugu Electoral Area, commended the interventions of ADDRO and underscored the need for similar interventions as mother, child mortality was prevalent in the area.

ADDRO is a faith-based non-governmental organisation that seeks to transform and empower lives through its social interventions.
