Amedzope (V/R), June 9, GNA- Mrs Thywill Eyra Kpe, Volta Regional Director, Department of Gender, has stated that reading is essential in broadening the scope of knowledge of learners.
She, therefore, urged parents to help their children cultivate the habit of reading to help them acquire the relevant knowledge needed to propel them to greater heights.
Mrs Kpe said these in an interview with the media at Amedzope during a programme organised by Pencils of Promise and the office of Member of Parliament for Ho West dubbed: “MP’s Reading with Learners Project.”
The Director said literacy and numeracy were the foundation every child needed to make meaningful progress, therefore, “whatever we can do to support them we must do it.”
She commended Pencils of Promise for the project, describing it as good, as it aimed at developing the reading skills of children.
Pupils from Amedzope E.P College of Education’s Demonstrations school and Amedzope E.P Primary School benefited from the project.
The programme saw Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Member of Parliament for Ho West, Dr Dickson Tsey, Principal of Amedzope E.P College of Education reading to the pupils.
Other personalities who also partook in the reading are; Mrs Thywill Eyra Kpe, Ms Diana Dzifa Amefinu, Deputy State Attorney, Volta, and Professor Edem Kwasi Bakah, President of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College.
Madam Evelyn Setorwu Kangah, Programme Officer at POP, said the objective of programme was to bring people in authority closer to the pupils so they could draw inspiration from them.
She said the programme was instituted in line with their tenth anniversary and aimed to provide opportunities for the personalities to share their school experiences with the learners to help shape their mindset.
Mr Bedzrah asked parents to encourage their children at home to read, noting that everything now pivoted around education.
