Kadjebi (O/R), June 18, GNA-Some 3,137 people have been registered for Ghana Card in the Kadjebi District.
The figure included 1,781 applicants registered during the mass registration and 1,356 enrolled when the Kadjebi Office commence work in November, 2021 to May, 2022.
Mr Angelo Fiawotoafor, District Registration Officer (DRO) disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
He said the Ghana Card was essential for every Ghanaian as it bore every personal information about the individual whose identity could be always verified.
He said the card identified and affirmed the holder as a Ghanaian gives him or her access to a world of benefits.
The DRO explained that the personal identification number and biometric data secured one from identity theft and impersonation.
He said the card also served as an ECOWAS ID Card and one could use it to travel within the sub-region as a passport.
Mr Fiawotoafor said the personal information in the National Identity Register would facilitate recognition and verification of identity by state agencies and private sector institutions.
He named incessant network failure, lack of office space and lack of accommodation for staff as some of the challenges confronting them.
The DRO also lamented about the inability those enrolled during the mass registration exercise not coming for their cards and appealed for help in form of public announcement for them to come for their cards.
Mr Fiawotoafor also called on everyone to help them render their service effectively.
Kadjebi District had a population of 73, 959 people including 37, 902 males and 36,057 females according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census figures.
