Ashaiman, June 11, GNA – Mr Albert Boakye Okyere, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA), has led the tree-planting campaign in the Municipality.
The tree-planting campaign in Ashaiman formed part of the Green Ghana Campaign which was aimed at planting over 20 million trees across the country.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Ashaiman during the exercise, Mr Okyere revealed that residents, including corporate organisations within the Ashaiman Municipality, had shown tremendous interest in the second phase of the tree planting campaign.
He noted that it was important for every institution to participate in the Green Ghana Campaign, saying that trees served important purpose in every community.
Mr Okyere stated that the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly requested for 10,000 species of trees to be planted within the various electoral areas in the municipality.
He said 3,000 trees had been delivered to the municipality for subsequent planting, saying the Parks and Gardens Unit at the Municipal Assembly would take delivery of the remaining package to be planted.
The Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive assured the residents that the local authority would enforce the by-laws against stray animals and caution the resident not to allow their livestock to destroy the planted trees.
He said the trees, when well taken care of, would improve the ecological system of Ashaiman and help beautify the municipality.
He also called on shop owners and corporate institutions to adopt and protect the trees in the municipality.
The species of trees planted included, Politeia, Militeia, Rain tree, Cacia, and Royal palm.
Corporate institutions, Security Services, public and private institutions as well as residents thronged the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly for their share of the trees.
