Kumasi, June 13, GNA – The Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights has held a capacity building workshop for community implementing partners of an adolescent girl project being implemented in six districts, held in Kumasi.
The participants were drawn from community implementing partner organisations, community facilitators and health providers drawn from six beneficiary districts in the country.
The districts are Nzema East, Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem, South Dayi, Bosome Freho, Jirapa, and Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan.
The project being funded by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), seeks to empower adolescent girls through improved access to reproductive health education and rights as well as sexual and gender-based violence.
Mr Isaac Nyampong, the Programmes Manager of ARHR, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the workshop was part of activities to continue implementation of the project to promote reproductive health education and services for young people.
He said the workshop was to evaluate the progress of work of partners in the previous year with regard to the implementation of the project and put together an achievable plan of action for the current year.
It was also to refresh the minds of participants on the manual for delivering reproductive health education to young people, strategies for facilitating adolescent access to quality sexual reproductive health services.
Mr Nyampong said the participants were also taken through the usage of social media and digital communication to tell stories of change and a review data collection form, tabulation of data and reporting templates.
“The idea of this project is to empower adolescents to have knowledge about reproductive health education which would help them to make informed choices and decisions to reach their full potentials,” he said.
He said the participants after the workshop would be empowered with new skills and strategies to implement the project in their districts and achieve maximum and positive outcomes.
ARHR, established in 2004, is a network of Ghanaian Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) promoting a right-based approached to sexual reproductive health.
It works to ensure the sexual reproductive health rights of people, especially vulnerable groups such as the poor, marginalized and women of reproductive age are protected and fulfilled irrespective of socio-economic status, gender or race.
