Women’s Premier League: Army Ladies sink Immigration Ladies with a 3-2 win

Accra, May 23, GNA- Army Ladies FC beat Immigration Ladies 3-2 in the final match of the 2021/22 Ghana Women’s Premier League at the McDan Astroturf Park.

Two goals from Adama Alhassan and a goal from Latifa Mohammed gave the visitors the win. Abigail Sarfo and Ruth Kwaah pulled two back for the home side.

Army Ladies made a great start to the game as they kept pushing right from the blast of the whistle to start the game. They kept the goal area of the home side boiling and were rewarded with a goal as early the 2nd minute with a strike from Alhassan.

The right back shot from 20 yards but the ball was misjudged by the Immigration Ladies goalkeeper who had to battle with the blazing sun in dealing with the ball.

Army Ladies continued their search for a second goal but the home side caught them on the break. Captain on the day, Abigail Sarfo got the equalizer as the Army Ladies defense failed to clear an aerial ball which fell to her foot and made no mistakes in slotting the ball home in the 6th minute.

Immigration Ladies came into the game after getting the equalizer, forcing Army Ladies goalkeeper to make some saves. Army Ladies restored the lead from the corner kick with Latifa Mohammed launching on to a cross from the left side of the Immigration Ladies defense in the 16th minute. 

In the 28 minute,Alhassan grabbed a brace from a long range with a well converted free kick from 30 yards to make the score line 3-1 for the visitors. 

Army Ladies made a force substitution as goalkeeper Esther  Sarpong who picked up an injury from a collision with an Immigration Ladies attacker was replaced with the experienced Evelyn Yeboah just five minutes to half time.

From the break, Army Ladies maintained their dominance but a tactical change from Immigration Ladies brought some balance to the game. Ruth Kwaah replaced Linda Aba Mensah in the 65 minute who pulled one back for the home side nine minutes later.

Kwaah became a thorn in the flesh of the tiring Army Ladies’ defense as she kept their goal area boiling. Kwaah could have scored the equalizer for the Immigration Ladies but she misfired in the 18yard box of the Army Ladies with just five minutes to end proceedings.

The defeat ensured that already relegated-Immigration Ladies ended the season with just a win.  Adama Alhassan was adjudged the best player on the day.

Elsewhere, Hasaacas Ladies beat Thunder Queens 1-0 to end the season unbeaten with 46 points whilst Police Ladies went away to snatch the maximum points from Sea Lions with a 1-0 scoreline.
