Nkoranza (BE/R), May 22, GNA – Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza South, has called for an independent inquiry into the shooting and killing of two youths, Albert Donkor and one other in his Constituency.
He said the truth must be established for justice to take its course for peace to prevail in the area.
Mr. Agyekum made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza in the Nkoranza South Municipality of the Bono East Region, saying ”I know we are dealing with a powerful institution like the Ghana Police Service, but we want finality in this case.”
The late Donkor, aged 27 and a native of Nkoranza disappeared and lost his life suspiciously while in Police custody assisting in an investigation into alleged armed-robbery cases in the area.
Consequently, the youth of the area clashed with the Police over the death of Donkor, and that resulted in the death of another person, Victor Owusu, a student of Nkoranza Technical Institute, while seven others who sustained various degrees of injuries in the process were hospitalized at the Nkoranza St. Theresa’s Catholic Hospital for treatment.
Mr Agyekum stated the people of Nkoranza wanted the truth to be established for those who perpetrated the crime against Donkor and Owusu to face the law.
He, therefore appealed to the international community, the European Union as well as High Commissions and Embassies in Ghana and Human Rights Organisations to take a keen interest in the happenings at Nkoranza for justice to be served on the family of the two persons who lost their lives.
