NGO builds toilet facility for traders of Kabiti market

Nkwanta, (O/R), May 10, GNA-Narayana Support System, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has commissioned a 12-seater capacity modern toilet facility for traders and residents of Kabiti in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

The project which was awarded to a contractor during President John Agyekum Kufour’s regime, was abandoned for several years and completed by the NGO as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Mr Narayana Osei Nyarko, Founder and Leader of the Organisation, commissioning said during the commissioning, that, took it upon himself to complete the abandoned project.

He said the toilet facility would stop open defecation in the community.

Mr Nyarko urged the people to cultivate a culture of maintenance to keep the facility hygienic and for it to last longer.

Nana Alfah Okonteh, Chief of Kabiti, thanked the organisation for completing the project.

He said the facility would reduce open defecation and diseases such as diarrhoea, which the community members suffer from.

Nana Okonteh further appealed for more support to solve the needs of the community.

Mr Hevi Raphael, Assemblyman of Kabiti Electoral Area, said the project being completed by the Organisation, had reduced a major problem in the area because open defecation was the major problem facing the community since there was no public toilet for residents to use.

Some market women who spoke to the Ghana News Agency noted that the toilet facility had brought a lot of joy to them since they would have a place of convenience while they sold their goods.

They said they would no longer walk distances to seek solace in nearby bushes to ease themselves, which sometimes made them fall prey to snake attacks.
