Be vigilant to prevent terrorism attacks, Worshippers advised

Tamale, May 24, GNA – Churches and other religious gatherings have been advised to be vigilant to prevent extremist activities during worship periods.

Very Reverend Father Mathew Yitiereh, the Parish Priest of Tamale Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, said protecting the country from any form of terrorists’ attacks was a shared responsibility and every citizen ought to contribute by becoming informed and aware of the threats the country faced.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tamale he said the fight against terrorism depended on both the security agencies and information from the public.

The churches, mosques and communities must be vigilant and traditional leaders must be engaged to facilitate the detection and prevention of terrorism in Ghana, he said.

Very Rev. Yitiereh said terrorists normally used various forms of explosives including simple and sophisticated ones and called on the citizenry to support the Government and the security agencies by providing relevant information to fight terrorism.

“We should endeavour to do everything possible to prevent such dastardly acts from happening,” he said.
