4-H Ghana holds Leadership Camp for students

Koforidua, May 30, GNA – 4-H Ghana has ended a three-day annual leadership camp for more than 75 club members, club advisors and International Agriculture Education Fellowship Programme (IAEFP) members in Koforidua.

The yearly camp meeting was held in partnership with the Norman Borlaug Instittute for International Agriculture, in Texas, USA.

Mr Eleazar Larweh, the Programmes Director for 4-H Ghana in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the leadership camp was held yearly to bring club members from participating schools together for team work, share educational ideas, build networks to enhance the goals of the organisation.

The 4-H stands for the Head, Heart, Hands and Health, and is a non-governmental body that is into positive youth development programmes promoting life and livelihood skills through agriculture and leadership in schools across the country in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service.

The participating schools for the camp were Pakro Methodist Junior High School (JHS), Ghana Senior High School, Ehiamankyene D/A, Aponoapono M/A JHS, Twum Guaso D/A, Batanyaa D/A, St. Augustine’s Catholic- Ayeldo and Mpeseduadze Methodist JHS.

Madam Jessica Spence, Programmes Coordinator for the Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture Education Fellowship Programme, said the partnership with 4-H Ghana and IAEFP was helpful because the agriculture programmes in 4-H Ghana’s activities showed that school farming could improve access to food.

Mr Appiah Kwaku Boateng, Executive Director for 4-H Ghana urged the participants to see agriculture as an equal opportunity employer and therefore adopt the 4H’s methodology of learning by applying their heads to clearer thinking, hands to larger service, hearts to greater loyalty and health to better living.
