Accra, April 5, GNA – Newmont Ghana is cautioning the public against ongoing fraudulent recruitment schemes offering unsuspecting job seekers fake employment opportunities at the company with the intent of extorting money from them.
A statement from the company said the modus operandi of the fraudsters was to impersonate employees of Newmont Ghana and advertise non-existent job opportunities supposedly at the company’s Ahafo North project, Ahafo and Akyem mines to the unsuspecting public.
The fraudsters also use the names of Newmont’s Human Resource Managers and offer work opportunities at Tarkwa and Obuasi which were not the company’s operating mines.
“These fraudsters as part of their tricks then request for upfront payments to process their false job applications.”
The statement said in their latest communications making the rounds, they claimed Newmont was undertaking a quarterly employment programme where 36 individuals from the 16 regions in Ghana, who have never applied for any job with the company, would be offered immediate employment on merit. According to them, this is part of Newmont’s rewards to the community.
“This is totally false and Newmont is not responsible for such fraudulent correspondence or any loss which may result from it,” it said.
Newmont Ghana has not appointed any officials, individuals, or groups outside the company to recruit on its behalf.
“What is currently ongoing is a scam intended to take undue advantage of job seekers,” it said.
The statement urged the public to stay vigilant and refrain from paying for jobs as this was not a requisite to get employment at Newmont.
It said Newmont vacancies can be accessed on the Careers page of the company’s website.
It said a position not advertised on the Careers page was not a legitimate opening.
Advertised roles on LinkedIn and other social media platforms should lead to the above website.
The public is also being urged to verify the authenticity of employment opportunity or business deal by, contacting the company.
The company urged the public to report any of these fraudulent activities to the Police or the company.
