Todome JHS cries for classroom block

Ahamansu-Todome (O/R), March 3, GNA – Mr John Torgah, the Assemblyman for Mangoase Electoral Area, has appealed to the Kadjebi District Assembly, benevolent organisations and philanthropists to help provide Todome Junior High School (JHS) with decent classroom blocks for conducive learning and teaching.

He said the community established the school to provide basic education to the children of the area, who hitherto, travelled about seven kilometres to access education at Ahamansu.

Mr Torgah disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a visit to Todome JHS in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region.

He said although the Parents-Teacher Association managed to provide shade for the students, it could not serve the intended purpose as classes ended abruptly anytime it was about to rain.

Mr Torgah, also a teacher by profession, appealed for decent school blocks since quality infrastructural facilitated better instruction, improved students’ outcomes and reduced dropout rates.

The Assemblyman said residents were ready to provide communal labour to any non-governmental organisation that was ready to assist them with a classroom block.

Mr Mensah Elewogbor Ahiade, the Headmaster of the School, said the school had a population of 58 students including 37 boys and 21 girls.

He said they had to suspend classes anytime the cloud gathered, and this was affecting effective teaching and learning.

He said the abrupt end of class hours as a result of rain had affected the annual Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) performance of students.

Mr Ahiade said these infrastructural challenges also had dire consequences on the safety, contact hours and intellect of the student.

Miss Gloria Kutani, a form three student at the school, said the infrastructure deficit affected them emotionally and psychologically and asked for the provision of classroom blocks to house them.
