Kotoka International Airport wins Best Airport award a third time

Accra, March 10, GNA – The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has for the third time been adjudged as the Best Airport by Size and Region in the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards by the Airports Council International (ACI).

KIA, which has been churning out about two to five million passengers per year in Africa, and managed by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) won the same award in 2019 and 2020, making it the third in three consecutive years.

The ACI global annual awards is organised in recognition of airport excellence in customer experience worldwide based on data from ASQ’s renowned Departures and Arrivals Surveys, and the world’s leading Airport Customer Experience Measurement and Benchmarking programme.

The Council, in partnership with Amadeus, will be celebrating the 2021 ASQ winners at an awards ceremony on September 14, 2022 in Krakow, Poland during the ASQ Forum and ACI Customer Experience Global Summit.

In a statement issued by KIA Management, attributed the feat to “the successful efforts of all stakeholders in providing a superior customer experience during the most difficult and challenging years of the pandemic.”

The Managing Director of GACL, Mrs Pamela Djamson-Tettey, said: “The Ghana Airports Company Limited is delighted that Kotoka International Airport has been recognised for this award.”

It added that: “This is the third time the Airport is receiving recognition for this award and we are extremely excited. It is indeed a testament of the commitment and tireless efforts of staff and stakeholders at the Airport.”

The Company also stated that it would: “Collectively use this success as a launch pad to rally around our mission of providing World-Class Airport Facilities and Services for the benefit of stakeholders.”

It noted that the award would spur the GACL on to work harder to continuously enhance passenger experience at the various airports.

“We remain deeply committed to prioritising superior customer experience and will continue to harness efforts and resources to make the passenger journey a pleasant one,” the Company said.

The Ghana Airports Company Limited commenced operations in January 2007 with the specific responsibility for planning, developing, managing and maintaining all airports in Ghana, including Kotoka International Airport and five regional airports at Kumasi, Tamale, Sunyani, Wa and Ho and various airstrips.

The ASQ Departures Programme measures Passenger Satisfaction on departure across 34 key performance indicators, with more than half of the world’s travellers passing through an ASQ Airport, including KIA.

Mr Luis Felipe de Olivera, the ACI World Director General said: “After a second year of the pandemic, this year’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award winners are, especially reflective of Customer Experience Leadership during the most challenging time in our sector’s history.  We are exceedingly proud of their stellar leadership in delivering the very best customer experience.”
