Israeli premier tests positive for Covid-19 after meeting Blinken

Tel Aviv, March 28, (dpa/GNA) – Israeli Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, has contracted the coronavirus, according to his office.

The 50-year-old has received a positive test result, but is feeling well and will continue his work from home, the statement said on Monday.

On Sunday, Bennett met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Jerusalem.

Blinken is scheduled to attend a summit with the foreign ministers of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco in the Israeli desert resort of Sde Boker on Monday.

Israel is to be represented there by Foreign Minister Jair Lapid.

The number of new coronavirus infections in Israel has recently risen again, averaging more than 10,000 a day. Israel has around 9.4 million inhabitants.
