Crews find black box of crashed Chinese flight

Beijing, March 23, (dpa/GNA) – One of the black boxes from a China Eastern flight, carrying 132 people that crashed in southern China this week has been found, Chinese civil aviation authorities reported on Wednesday.

They however said the device is so badly damaged, that it is unclear if they have found the flight data recorder or the cockpit voice recordings.

No survivors have been found since flight MU5735 crashed in hilly terrain near Wuzhou on Monday. Flight-tracking website FlightRadar24.com said that the Boeing 737 fell rapidly, then slightly regained some altitude before crashing.

Aviation authorities said they tried to contact the crew multiple times during the incident, but never got a response.

Recovery work had to be broken off on Wednesday due to heavy rains, in a region that has already presented crews with problems due to slippery and boggy conditions. However, a team of experts has reached the crash site, according to state news agency Xinhua.
