Coronavirus control measures allowed to lapse in Romania

Bucharest, Mar. 9, (dpa/GNA) – Virtually all of Romania’s precautionary anti-coronavirus measures ceased to apply on Wednesday.

It is now possible to enter Romania without a coronavirus vaccination certificate.

The obligation to wear a mask, which was previously applied in all public places and also in the open air, has been lifted. There are no longer any restrictions on opening hours or the number of guests in restaurants, and access to all events and cultural institutions is equally free.

The only exception is the Health Ministry, which is planning its own restrictions, likely to affect hospitals.

The state of alert due to the coronavirus pandemic, which had made the restrictions legally possible, had been in effect since May 18, 2020. It has now expired and was not extended, the government in Bucharest announced.

The seven-day incidence of new infections has been falling steadily for a month and stood at 182 per 100,000 inhabitants on Wednesday.
