Kwadaso (Ash), Feb. 7, GNA – Dr Kingsley Nyarko, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso, says the socio-economic achievements of President Akufo-Addo’s administration are unprecedented under the Fourth Republic.
The MP challenged anyone with opposing data to step up to provide evidence against his statement.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in reaction to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) statement that the economy was down on its knees before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Nyarko said that was a lie.
The MP pointed out that President Akufo-Addo’s administration had performed exceptionally better than his counterparts in the areas of socio-economic infrastructure and development, pro-poor initiatives as well as prudent fiscal management and digitisation of the country’s economy.
In terms of management of COVID-19, Dr Nyarko said President Akufo-Addo demonstrated a world class leadership towards the management of the COVID-19.
He added that various strategies implemented by the President to address the surge of the coronavirus cases in Ghana were adopted and subsequently implemented by several countries around the world.
Dr Nyarko mentioned some of the achievements of the NPP government as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by Former President J. A. Kuffour administration, the Free SHS policy, planting for food and jobs.
Others are the rearing for food and jobs, one District one Factory, Aquaculture for food and jobs, one Constituency one Ambulance, one Village one Dam, Free TVET, NEIP and NABCO.
He said all these policies were geared towards transforming the country’s economy, improve the socio-economic lives of the people and reduce poverty while creating jobs for the youth.
Dr Nyarko indicated that millions of jobs had been created directly and indirectly from the various policies and the NPP administration had performed far better than the NDC.
“I can confidently say that the NPP administration from Former President J.A. Kuffour to President Akufo-Addo had performed better than the NDC, our policies show clearly that we are unprecedented.
If the NDC says they are better than NPP, let them show us their policies that have helped Ghanaians and transform the country,” Dr Nyarko stated.
The MP revealed that in terms of road network, the NPP had constructed more and better roads than the opposition NDC in the country.
“The NPP had constructed more and better road networks in the country than the NDC.
In the Ashanti region, all the interchanges were constructed by the NPP administration,” he said.
When the NPP came into power in the year 2000, the road stock was 39,000 kilometres.
In the time of President J.A. Kuffour, it shot up to 69,000 and in President Mahama time, it came to 73,000.
As we speak now, the road stock under Akufo-Addo’s administration is about 80,000 kilometres, which clearly shows that our current President had constructed more roads,” the MP said.
