Russia and China blame Ukraine and West for conflict escalation

Moscow, Feb 24, (dpa/GNA) – Russia and China blame Western countries and Kiev, for the escalation in the conflict in Ukraine, according to the Foreign Ministry in Moscow.

The comments come after talks between Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

“The ministers expressed their joint conviction that the reason for the current crisis is Kiev’s refusal – encouraged by the US and its allies, to implement the Minsk Package of measures approved by the UN Security Council,” the ministry said.

According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, Wang said that while China has always respected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, the Ukraine conflict has “complex and special historical aspects” and that Beijing understood Russia’s “legitimate concerns on security issues.”
